After discussion on #far-right-monitoring, I was wondering if it might be good to have a section monitoring the anti-LGBTQ+ attacks, worldwide? As the policies and procedures seem to be shared across many countries, but also come from center-right (not just far-right) political groups, maybe it would warrant its own discussion and tracking space? Not 100% sure how this works, but let's talk 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ and OSINT 💜
As approved by the mods (and originally mentioned in Far Right Monitoring), this thread is for antisemitism monitoring and discussion (https://discord.com/channels/709752884257882135/813082873862160384/1331549962567417868). Alongside traditional manifestations of antisemitism, a few topical topics that might be of interest: 1. The ongoing international debate around the dividing line between anti-Zionism and antisemitism. 2. Far-right exploitation of the Palestinian cause. 3. "Left-wing" manifestations of antisemitism. But beware of faq 2 about "far-left monitoring": > **2. Why isn't there a "far-left monitoring channel"?** > We don't have a far-left monitoring channel for a few reasons. First, it will attract a bad crowd to the server as I don't see a way to differentiate between what might be considered academic interest in far-left groups and just far-right hatred for said groups. Second, Bellingcat has a years-long research thread focusing on far-right monitoring in the United States and elsewhere. See, for example, the work of Robert Evans, Michael Colborne, the Bellingcat Monitoring Project, and others. Third, by every measure (scope, impact, ambition, etc.) far right violence is a far bigger phenomenon than the far left on the global scale. "Left-wing" is also a pretty problematic / inaccurate characterisation of antisemitism outside of traditional religious and race "science" versions of antisemitism. A good example is David Miller, who self-identifies as "left-wing" but might more accurately be described as a "conspiracy theorist" or "Iranian influence agent". 4. The bizarre ADL statement claiming Musk's Nazi salute wasn't a Nazi salute raises uncomfortable questions about their competence to discern antisemitism.
